Nishikaze, Lethbridge’s Anime Convention, has announced the cancellation of the event for the foreseeable future.
From the official Nishikaze Website:
It is with great regret that I must inform all of you that there will be no Nishikaze this year – nor will there be any in the future. Like all good things – they must come to an end. If anyone would like to take over the event and run it for yourself, feel free to email chair (dot) ryan AT nishikaze.org and we’ll work out the details. Running this event takes a lot of hard work and dedicated people to make sure it works out succesfully, and it has come time for us to move on with our lives and start living our lives. We still enjoy cons and we will likely attend them from time to time – but we need to focus on other things as well. To all those who are upset by this announcement, I am truly sorry. I hope you will go and support the many other related events still going strong in Calgary (Otafest) and Edmonton (Animethon) as well as Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo.Ryan Cradduck – Chairman
Nishikaze was a Japanese animation and cultural festival operating as a non-profit organization. It was originally started in 2004 as “the experiment” to see if this type of event would be possible in a small city like Lethbridge. The experiment turned out to be a success and the event enjoyed four years of steady growth and positive reviews.
Unfortunately, Nishikaze encountered problems with securing a venue for Nishikaze V. Originally, Nishikaze V was scheduled to occur on Saturday, March 14, 2009, but due to problems securing a venue, the event was postponed to the 2010 year. Unfortunately problems continued to persist, leading to to today’s announcement.
