SwapCon II: Bring More Money, Is Announced for October 30, 2010

Location: Education North 2nd floor rooms 2-115(viewing) and 2-101(vending)
Price: Free, unless you want to buy something.

Anime-Alberta and the Banzi Anime Klub of Alberta are teaming up once again to bring you SwapCon II: Bring More Money. The event, started by Anime-Alberta’s bustling Marketplace forum, features regular anime fanatics clearing out their basements of their spare Anime memorabilia.

So are people still interested in doing Swapcon 2 in September??

If so I need to start talking to the BAKA Exec’s to look at booking some rooms.

Heck, if people are interested we could look at adding a viewing room, gaming room, and/or panel room if we can find people to run them.

For anyone who doesn’t know what Swapcon is, it’s a Swap Meet/Garage Sale style meet-up for people to buy, sell and swap their anime and gaming related stuff. It’s held at the U of A and sponsored by BAKA and Anime Alberta.

It’s free to attend for both customers and vendors, as usually they’re the same people, and we hope to keep it that way. So it’s not going to get any larger than as many rooms as we can get for free.

BAKA and Anime Alberta are looking at putting on a larger event in Winter called Wintercon, but that depends on how much enthusiasm we get and how many of the other U of A clubs decide to join us.

So do you want a table at Swapcon? Or, are you interested in running an event there?

Anime Alberta Sponsor’s Animethon’s Best AMV In Alberta Award

Once again, Anime-Alberta is sponsoring Animethon’s “Best AMV Made In Alberta” award in their AMV contest. The award is meant to encourage local talent to try their hand at their own Anime Music Video’s and see who among them is the best in Alberta.

Anime-Alberta Purchased by Enthalpy Advertising International

As you may have already heard, Victor Vargas has sold Anime-Alberta.org to Enthalpy Advertising International. Here at Enthalpy Advertising, we are always looking to expand our range of advertising and we felt that the acquisition of the online magazine was the next logical step. We are looking forward to entering the fandom market and the opportunities it will provide.

Rest assured, Anime-Alberta fans can continue to expect the same quality of coverage under our new management. In fact, I am proud to announce that we have already arranged coverage of Anime Boston, happening this weekend.

Anime Alberta Feedback

Anime-Alberta’s been up again for over 6 months now and I’ve been making a bunch of upgrades here and there. But right now I’d really like to know from you guys what you want on the site or your thoughts on what has been happening so far.

Think I should bring back “While You Were Watching Anime?”
Any comments or suggestions on the photos that have been taken?
Should I have more analysis of conventions like the Con Comparison Chart or the article of the Weapons Ban?
More interviews with people in the community?
Should I really push for transcripts to be with those interviews?
More Con reviews?
Anime reviews?
More initiatives like providing webspace for small events, like was done for JAFand the Sobabowl?
More upgrades to the forum? Should I push to make one unified look for the forum, or are things fine the way they are?

Anime Alberta Returns

First of all I’d like to start off by saying I’m sorry for the site’s absence for so long. The simple short of it was that I took on way too much too fast (Animethon Chair, ASAPA treasurer, taking care of my father, business ventures) and I neglected Anime-Alberta. I was counting too much on other people to pull through for things for the site and it never panned out. When I found myself out of time, I kept putting Anime-Alberta on to the back burner until things got to the state they were and I never should have done this. I’m sorry.

To continue with the bad news, in the great “bot invasion of 2009″ we still haven’t been able to recover large sections of the database. So for the forums you’ll have to make new accounts and your private messages have been lost. We hope to recover most of the posts later for archival purposes, but that’s the best we can do at this point.

But with good news the front end for Anime-Alberta is fully functional and we will be accepting article submissions. As well the bulletin board is back, albeit in a simpler form for now, and is ready for all of your post needs.
